Bushwick, Brooklyn. A Place I call home. A place where we used to play on dirty mattresses, fire hydrants in the summer and handball on any empty wall space. We haven’t had our regular unofficial Bushwick Puerto Rican Parade in 15years and I was really worried that there weren’t going to be any Puerto Ricans during this 1st Official Parade due to Gentrification. But to me and everyone’s amazement, we all came together to show our pride. The parade was a huge success and strength in the face of gentrification. It doesn’t matter if you try to displace us, raise our rent, or kick us out of our own neighborhoods; we will still come together because we all have a connection in our hearts. Bushwick Brooklyn will always be our home.
